Urology

I am looking for a urologist to write this section.

Acute urinary retention is very easy to treat if you have a sterile urinary catheter, and almost impossible to treat if you don't.  Untreated, it would probably lead to a very unpleasant death within days.  How did the Romans and medieval Europeans treat it (if at all)?  At some point in the future, we will probably not have access to disposable rubber or plastic catheters and we will have to resort to using catheters made of other materials (metal for example).  Can you foresee any other changes to urological practice?
