Optometry

I am looking for an optometrist to write this section.  I understand that usually when you visit an optometrist to have a prescription for eyeglasses filled, the optometrist does not make the lenses on site.  Instead, the lenses are imported from a central location, where presumably they are machined using high-tech processes, and the optometrist merely fits them into the frames chosen by the customer.

In a post peak world, how easy (or difficult) would it be to manufacture lenses from locally available materials - because presumably, this was the way it was done at one time?
